About Me

Here’s the rundown:

  • I live in a suburb in Washington State, USA (zone 8a). My household includes my husband, 8-year-old daughter, two large dogs and two cats.

  • I work a full time job (not agricultural or sciencey) and spend most of my time mom’ing, as one does.

  • Growing up, my dad was a huge gardener and had an awesome garden that I didn’t appreciate enough. And, he had a worm bin, which I also didn’t appreciate much. Fast forward 25 or 30 years and he gifted my daughter a small worm bin that he’d built, with starter worms. What a cool way to teach a kid about dirt, animals, decomposition, science.. Oh my!

    • That bin was then left our our deck in direct sunlight for at least a year and we infrequently (like… VERY infrequently) bothered to check on or feed the worms.

    • At some point I was feeling bad about throwing away food scraps and realized that I should be giving them to the worms… and then that we may have killed a whole bin of worms! I checked and… nope, they were THRIVING! And I thought to myself… that’s pretty cool. I should up my worm game!

And now I am a crazy worm lady….. I started this site so I could provide some friendly, hopefully non-gross information to folks like me who may want to try their hand in worms. You really don’t need to be a worm whisperer or master gardener to do this! And you can feel a little better about not sending your trash to the landfill. Plus, worms are WAY easier than managing compost!
